Recipe for dit da jow
Dit Da Jow is a traditional Chinese herbal liniment used for pain relief, bruises, and muscle recovery. Here's a basic recipe for making Dit Da Jow:
**Ingredients:**
- 1 cup (240 ml) grain alcohol or high-proof vodka (at least 60-70% alcohol)
- 2 tablespoons dried benzoin resin
- 2 tablespoons dried myrrh
- 2 tablespoons dried dragon’s blood resin (or substitute with red resin)
- 1 tablespoon dried safflower
- 1 tablespoon dried turmeric root
- 1 tablespoon dried cinnamon bark
- 1 tablespoon dried ginger root
- 1-2 small dried chili peppers (optional, for warming effect)
- 1 small piece of dried angelica root (optional)
- Glass jar with lid
**Instructions:**
1. **Prepare the Herbs:** Lightly crush or break the dried herbs and resins to help release their oils.
2. **Combine Ingredients:** Place all herbs and resins into the glass jar.
3. **Add Alcohol:** Pour the grain alcohol over the herbs, ensuring they are fully submerged.
4. **Seal and Shake:** Seal the jar tightly and shake well.
5. **Infuse:** Store in a cool, dark place for at least 2-4 weeks, shaking the jar every few days to help extraction.
6. **Strain:** After the infusion period, strain out the herbs and resins using a fine mesh or cheesecloth.
7. **Bottle:** Transfer the strained Dit Da Jow into a clean bottle for storage.
**Usage:** Apply a small amount to bruises, sprains, or sore muscles. Gently massage into the skin.
**Note:** This is a traditional recipe, and ingredients can vary based on regional or personal preferences. Always do a patch test before widespread use and consult with a healthcare professional if you have concerns.
